A note from our chairman
Given the business we’re in, I’ve had the opportunity to visit thousands of impressive supermarkets all around the world. Yet supermarket shopping with such healthy choices is a distant dream for so many. Underprivileged families are struggling to just put food on the table and malnutrition kills 3 million children every year.
On the other side of the coin, we have this epidemic — childhood obesity — which is no longer just a ‘rich country’ problem but a fast-growing challenge for poorer economies too.
Children often lack the drive or nutritional knowledge to eat healthier, despite the abundance of all types of available food.
In my privileged role at the tcc Foundation, I know we can make a difference and make life better for children all around the world.
UNICEF tells us that every $1 invested in nutrition has an estimated return of $16 in social and economic benefits.
We’re investing in projects that will help tackle child hunger and we’re planning to launch strong educational programmes that will focus on the problem of childhood obesity across the world. We’re also committed to the protection of vulnerable children living in or displaced from disaster and conflict zones.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to all our customers, employees and partners who are the real source of support, inspiration and motivation to our Foundation
Many thanks to all of you.
